Falling for Fall...

I am actually really getting into the Fall spirit lately.  I am not usually a huge fan of fall...or any season where the temp drops below 70...but I'm getting really excited about Fall-ish things lately!  Some fall things I am loving...

                                                                             1.
Keeneland! I have been to Keeneland the last two weekends.  The first weekend with family, and last weekend with my bestest friends.  Fall meet is my favorite.  Something about the changing leaves and the sweaters and boots just seem to fit the Keeneland feel to me.
(Me and the sister)

                                                                              2.
Football.  Duh.  Kentucky, Oregon, and of course the Packers. I have always been a huge Packers fan, and this year we have a UK alum on the team as well (Shout out to #18, Randall Cobb) and of course I gotta love my Cats, for obvious reasons.  This weekend is the 'blackout" game they always do Halloween weekend.  Everyone is supposed to come wearing your black UK gear.  Today they debuted their black uniforms for the game.

(Not the best pic but its all I could find, you get the idea anyway.  They are sweet)

                                                                             3.
Warm Vanilla Sugar!  I bust this out every year for the fall/winter.  Its one of my favorites and never gets old.  The smell just makes me feel warm and cozy.

                                                                             4.
My fireplace!  There is nothing better than curling up in front of the fireplace, being lazy, watching a move (like, maybe Christmas Vacation, tis the season....close enough anyway) I want all of these rooms...

                                                                            5.
Fall Fashion!  Even though I prefer warmer weather, I love fall clothes.  Hoodies, sweaters, boots, etc.  I think a hoodie may be my favorite article of clothing.  Sad but true.
 (I want this Ducks hoodie)

                                                                            6.
The smells!  Pumpkin spice candles, coffee, tea, pie....I love it all.  All the fall scents make me happy ;)  My absolute favorite is Hot Maple Toddy from Candleberry.  If you have never had a Candleberry candle, go get one....Now.  Run, do not walk.  If you don't live in Kentucky you can find them here. You are welcome.

                                                                               7.
Baking!  I really want to make these...

(How cute are these?  Maybe a fun activity for me and my nieces and nephews.  I will make that happen.)

And some other Fall things I want to make sure to do....
And if all of that didn't get you in the fall spirit, here is some more inspiration...

Where in the world is Whitney???

Its been two months since I've written a blog post....
I think saying that makes me a crappy blogger puts it VERY mildly.  I am really hoping that was just a little phase, and that things will be different from now on.  I hope...

So let me update you on the life of Whitney K Smith over the last two months...

Well,  I FINALLY GOT A JOB!!  Cheers to that, right?
Since the end of August I have taken on the role of your friendly radio advertising sales rep for Cumulus Radio.

In Lexington that is:

There are upsides and downsides to the job, that is for sure.

The pluses:

1)Radio is super cool.  Just learning the industry and being around it all every day is just plain fun. If you listen to any of these stations you can now hear my lovely voice on a few different commercials.  Its just as bad as hearing yourself on your voicemail or home videos....except way worse and waaaay more awkward.

2)I got to go on air, which was quite an experience.  But not only did I get to go on air, I got to go on with legendary UK Basketball coach Joe B Hall and talk sports, which just happens to be one of my favorite things to talk about.  Which leads me to another plus...

3)  Joe B has quickly become a great sports buddy of mine and I feel extremely lucky to have him as a friend.  I drop by every morning to say "hi", get my daily hug and to catch up on all the goings on in the world of sports, especially UK basketball.... but also because I get in trouble if I don't. FYI - if you miss one of his phone calls you will never live it down.  He does not appreciate that.
Last weekend, he took my sister and I to dinner at Malone's, and even though she embarrassed the family name with her lack of sports knowledge (just kidding Jamie), he still loved her.   What can I say?  Its the family charm we were blessed with.

(At his house before our dinner date)

The minuses:

It is a 100% commission based sales job. Which is "fine" when you are just starting out and they don't expect a whole lot from you, but it is VERY overwhelming when you consider the very near future.  Especially when most of the larger "elephant" accounts are already claimed.  When you start you end up busting your tail to get a few hundred dollars at a time from small mom and pop shops.  Which adds up and works out okay for now, but when you are expected to bring in about $30,000 a month??? You could see how this could get tricky.

But I'm not complaining, it is great experience and I'm just thankful to finally have a job and a stable (for now at least) income.  But......I am still very actively on the job hunt.  I guess that part of my life will never be over :-/

(me and some work peeps, modeling our Hot 102 breast cancer awareness pink tees)

(my cubicle. I have since moved, but I am ashamed to say the new locale is no more fluffed up than this one.  I need to work on that.  But yes, that is Rondo on my computer screen.  Obvs.)

In addition to all this job fun, I am still working at the gym on Tuesday and Thursday nights and I am taking a class on Monday and Wednesday nights.  So Monday through Thursday, my day starts at 6:30am and goes not stop til about 8pm. So, I'm sure you can see how blogging has managed to fall through the cracks. No, I do not plan to do this long term.  Why am I taking classes still you ask??  Well, because its just what I do.  I like school.  Shoot me.

So, there you have it.  My half assed excuse for where I have been the last couple of months.  I know this post wasn't very much fun but I just wanted to catch everyone up and get back in the swing of this blogging thing.  I will have more, funner (yes I know that is not a word) posts in the very near future.  You can't get rid of me that easy!
